COVID-19 WEDDING

SHOULD YOU POSTPONE YOUR WEDDING IN THE WORLD OF CORONAVIRUS?

Congratulations! You’re engaged!  The two of you are planning the wedding of your dreams. 2020 seemed like an amazing year to have your wedding, a year with endless possibilities. Then Covid-19 hit and your world was turned upside down.

Coronavirus wasn’t in your plans. Your plans consisted of happy times with your family and friends.  Finding an amazing venue to host your love ones, choosing the perfect dress and suit, spending time with your bridal party on buck’s and hen’s nights, taste-testing cakes and the reception menu and planning a great big party!  But that’s all changed now.  Your wedding plans aren’t your own to choose freely.

My heart goes out to you at this difficult time.  No one could have predicted a world pandemic when you started planning your big day.

So, what do you do now?  Do you down-size your wedding?  Postpone your wedding? Or cancel your wedding all together?  Ultimately the choice is yours at the end of the day, only you and your fiancé can make the final decision.

There is so much information out there, but it’s all sounds conflicting and confusing.  Let me help you by giving you some advice and a helpful link to guide you to make the right decision for you.

Unfortunately, COVID is the ‘fun police’ and they have come to stop the party.  Depending on the size of your wedding venue, you will be greatly restricted on the numbers of guests you can now have at your wedding ceremony and reception with the one per 4 square meter rule.  Only the couple and their parents can dance. Singing is restricted and guests must be at least 3 meters from performers. Your guests must be seated for the reception with table service.  During the ceremony and reception, guests must adhere to social distancing, with no hugging or kissing (out of household groups).

Option 1:  Downsize your wedding.  Find out from your wedding venue on the numbers allowed and work out your guest list from there.  Maybe an intimate wedding or elopement might suit you better at this time.

Option 2: Postpone your wedding.  If you are postponing your wedding, I suggest picking a date approx. one year from the original date.  Contact your key wedding suppliers with a short list of dates and narrow it down to a date that suits most of your suppliers.

Option 3: Cancel your wedding.  It would be such a shame if you had to cancel your wedding, but for some couples this is the only option at this time due to, for example, job loss, family living interstate or overseas, you can’t have the wedding you dreamed of.

Make sure if you are going ahead with your wedding this year, you get the COVID Safe Plan from your wedding venue and talk to your wedding suppliers about what they are doing to keep you safe.

It’s in my opinion, that until there is a vaccine for COVID-19, social distancing will be part of our lives for the unforeseeable future and these restrictions in different forms will be here to stay.  So, it’s important when planning your wedding in the next year, that you are mindful that the wedding you once dreamed of, may look a little different.

At the end of the day, your wedding is just the start of your married life together, and whether that happens in 2020, or beyond, the most important thing is that you have each other and your health.
