My name’s Lou O’Brien and I’m a professional photographer on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. I graduated back in 1990 from Caloundra High School & I remember my last year of high school being so much fun. I had so many interests from taking part in the school musical, playing on various sporting teams, I loved art and especially the darkroom – learning my craft of photography. I went away on school camp with my best friends. We also had two school dances that year, a semi-formal and the end of year graduation. There was so much happening, and I loved every minute.

Fast forward to 2020 and the Coronavirus is changing the way many school formals and graduation ceremonies are being held, I’m finding many students & their families are feeling the loss of a significant ritual.

Missing out on these joyous and much anticipated events is as heartbreaking for seniors as it is for their parents. Students this year have missed out on all the things that I loved, like school camps, sporting events, school musicals, the list goes on. For a monumental year that was supposed to be full lasting memories, it’s now been replaced with a string of cancellations. That’s why I think it’s important to find different ways to commemorate & find joy in other kinds of experiences, such as the High School Senior Lookbook photography session.

This is a time of great excitement as each student is ending one chapter and about to embark on the next big stage on their life’s journey. It’s a time to celebrate each student as unique individuals as they enter into adulthood.
