MY TOP 10 WEDDING MOVIES

I think I was destined to become a wedding photographer.  Afterall, I love Rom-Coms, they’re my go-to movies when I need a pick me up.   I love the idea of love & romance, and a movie that mixes this with comedy is a winner for me.

So, I thought I’d put together my top 10 Wedding rom-com movies for you, in no particular order.

Bridesmaids

OMG!  I laughed so much in this movie. It’s hilarious!  Bridemaids, centres around Annie, a jobless baker, who is asked by her best friend, Lillian, to be her maid of honour. There are so many funny scenes, it’s hard to pick my favourite, but one that stands out is the gastro scene at the dress fitting, it’s so wrong, but so funny!  I also love that this movie is full of strong female leads, including Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy and Australia’s own Rose Byrne, they’re all amazing, funny and creative in their own ways.

The Princess Bride

This movie is an epic fairy tale adventure about a beautiful young woman Buttercup, played by Robyn Wright and her one true love Westley, played by Cary Elwes. He must find her after a long separation and save her. Over the years, I have photographed a few wedding ceremonies of true Princess Bride fans, who have borrowed lines from this movie in their vows.

27 Dresses

I’ve been a bridesmaid 7 times, I thought that was a lot.  But in this movie, Jane, played by Katherine Heigel, has been a bridemaid 27 times, that’s just crazy!  This movie is fun and predictable, & is one of my fav’s.  One of my favourite scenes is when she and and Kevin the cynical journalist, played by James Marsden, get stuck in the back of nowhere in a highway pub and sing Benny & The Jets on the bar. Classic!

Mamma Mia

I’ve seen the stage show as well as the movie and both were incredible!  Mammia Mia follows Sophie and her family as they busily prepare for her wedding.  Unbeknown to her mum, she secretly invites three men, who were her mother's lovers in the past, with the hope that one of them is her father.  It’s the music in this movie that ties it all together so perfectly.

The Hangover

Girls, if you ever wondered what the boys get up to at a Buck’s Night, let’s hope it’s not this.  It makes for an hilarious movie, but I wouldn’t want it to be reality.  Doug and his three best men go to Las Vegas to celebrate his bachelor party. However, the three best men, played by Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifinakis and Ed Helm, wake up the next day with a hangover and realise that Doug is missing.  The moral of the story, be careful who you pick in your bridal party.

Wedding Crashers

I think Isla Fisher steals the show in The Wedding Crashers.  She is bonkers!  This a crazy, funny movie that follows two womanisers who love to gatecrash weddings, something I get to do for a living.  The two gatecrashers, played by Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson find themselves in a fix when one of them falls in love with the bridesmaid, played by Rachel McAdams at one such wedding.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding

I actually love My Big Fat Greek Wedding 1 & 2.  This movie has so much heart to it, as well as being funny as hell.  Toula, played by Nia Vardalos, who is also the writer of the screenplay, plays a Greek woman trying to come to terms with her heritage, falls in love with a non-Greek man, and has to convince her family to accept him.  Two things that have become folkfore since the movie, 1, every word can be traced back to Greece. 2, Windex fixes everything!

The Wedding Singer

This is a sweet movie.  You can’t help but root for Robbie, the recently dumped wedding singer, to win the heart of Julia, a waitress he met at a wedding reception. If you love 80’s fashion and music, you’ll love this movie.

Four Weddings and a Funeral

The British sure know how to make great movies.  Four Weddings and a Funeral is an absolute classic  romantic comedy.  It’s the movie Hugh Grant is best known for and the one I love him in the most.  Hugh plays Charles, a good-natured young introvert, he desperately tries to win over his true love for Carrie as he attends the wedding of four of his friends and a funeral.

Monster in Law

Not many people know of this movie, but I love it!  Jane Fonda is fantastic in it and Wanda Sykes has the best lines and delivery, she steals the show! It’s around the time Jennifer Lopez was doing a rom-com every other month, and she’s great at them, but this one is different, it’s quirky and funny and you can tell the actors are having a ball.  I think a lot of brides might relate to this one.

So, that’s my top 10 Wedding movies, but my list goes on and on. I honestly have so many favs. If you have a favourite wedding movie I didn’t mention, let me know, I’d love to add it to my list.
