Prepping for your Wedding

Preparing for your wedding can start months in advance. Here are a few things you may consider as you approach your special day:

  • Establish a skincare routine. No one wants to have skin break outs on their wedding day. Having glowy, clear skin any day is something to strive for and on your wedding day it’s a dream. Try taking the Sukin Naturals Skin Care online quiz to determine your skin-type, and what products might be best for you.

  • Start healthy routines with your partner. This isn’t about diets and hard workouts, but instead focuses on healthy, intuitive eating and getting your body ready for a night of dancing and celebration. Take a night or two each week to cook a healthy dinner together with no distractions from phones or work. Start taking an afternoon stroll or a brisk morning walk together. Not only are these great opportunities to connect without distractions, but it establishes a healthy routine for you both before married life.

  • Regularly get your teeth checked at the dentist. This may sound silly, but consider how much you’ll be smiling on your wedding day. You might even consider teeth whitening. It’s always good to have nice, healthy teeth for all those pictures!

  • Dance lessons. If you plan on having a first dance, it can’t hurt to get a few dance lessons in before the big day. It’s a photographer’s dream to have a couple express their personalities in their first dance, rather then just swaying together like a couple of awkward teenagers. You don’t have to be Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, you only need a few good moves, and simply repeat them.

There are so many options for hair-styles. Up or down? Curls, waves, or straight hair? Here’s a few tips to think about when booking your hair stylist:

  • Browse their website, reviews, and social media for experiences of others who have worked with that particular stylist. It’s also a good opportunity to take a look at some of their work and determine whether you like their styling skills.

  • Always book at least six months in advance. Almost every bride books a hair stylist, it doesn’t hurt to get in early!

  • Book in a trial-run. This is a great way to get to know your hair stylist and see what style you might like on your special day. I suggest getting your makeup trial on the same day.

  • BONUS TIP - Book in your engagement shoot the same day as your hair & makeup trials and end the day with a date night. There’s no sense in wasting a gorgeous look just to go home and do the laundry.

Makeup artist

Similar to a hair stylist, book your makeup artist around six months before. There are so many different styles you could have for your wedding; soft glam, smokey eyes, nude lips, natural. The right makeup artist should make you feel comfortable and beautiful. Here’s a few tips:

  • A trial day is a must, especially if you’re not used to wearing makeup.

  • Prep your skin in the weeks leading up to your trial, so you know you skin is at it’s healthiest.

  • Bring inspiration photos, along with a photo of your dress and styling ideas for your day.

  • Be open to suggestions from your makeup artist. They’re the professionals, and they know what will look best on you. But make sure you stay tune to yourself and speak up if you’re not comfortable with the final look.

  • The right false lashes can open up your eyes and really make you sparkle.

Bridesmaids

The week before the wedding can be chaotic for a bride! Aside from last minute planning, tying up loose-ends and welcoming in family and friends that have travelled for your big day, here are a few things that may have slipped your mind:

  1. Hair cut and colour - Make sure to have your appointment booked around a week before your big day for a freshen up of a new colour and cut.

  2. Nails! There will be plenty of close-ups on your hand on your wedding day; those wanting to ooh and aah over your wedding ring, and plenty of pics of you and your partner. Don’t forget to get your nails done before you say ‘I do’.

  3. Waxing - It’s generally recommended to get waxed 2-3 days before your wedding day. Those with very sensitive skin might incur slight redness or blotchiness, which will calm down in a day or so.

  4. Spray Tan - If having a gorgeous bronze glow for your wedding day is part of your look, then book this in for 1-2 days before the big day. Remember to get your nails, waxing, hair, and any other pre-wedding appointment done at least a day before your spray tan so your skin is nice and clean.

  5. Massage - Time to de-stress. After the months of planning and organising, take some time to yourself to just unwind with a beautiful relaxing massage.

  6. House Cleaner - One of my brides gave me this tip, and I think it’s a must! To reduce stress, book in a house cleaner for a few days before the wedding. Cleaning is one less thing to worry in the busy week leading up to your big day and when you return from your honeymoon you have a beautiful clean home.

Small, minute details such as perfume, cologne, lipstick, and jewellery can always slip your mind during the whirlwind of wedding planning. Make sure to have all the smaller things sorted before your big day. Having your jewellery, shoes, and perfume together on your big day also helps the photographer with flat-lays and close-ups of these details.

Treat Yourself!

There’s no denying that wedding planning, researching, and budgeting can be very stressful, and during the days leading up to saying ‘I do’, no bride should feel panicked or like she’s being pulled every which way. During the week or month before the wedding, it’s important to find time to relax and detox from all the havoc of wedding planning. Why not get your bridesmaids together and go in on a spa day?

The Sunshine Coast is home to some pretty luxurious day spas to get pampered. Options include the AQUA Day Spa in Noosa, or the Endota Spa at Sunshine Plaza or Noosa. Make a day of pampering yourself with your bridal party and spend an afternoon filled with facials, massages, and treatments.

Planning a wedding is fun and stressful. From sorting out your venue, to booking the band, every spare minute in the lead up to your wedding is deciding on guest lists, decorations & styling, and menu tastings to just mention a few. It’s a lot of work, so now is the time to reward yourself and take a step back and swap the wedding planning for some wedding pampering!

Finding the best wedding suppliers can be overwhelming. To help plan your wedding on the Sunshine Coast, I have created a wedding directory of my favourite wedding suppliers, vendors, and services that I know will go the extra mile to ensure your wedding is special and unique to you.
