Choosing Your Wedding Stylist
There are so many wedding themes, styles, and colour palettes out there that it’s no surprise some brides and grooms struggle with deciding on what their aesthetic is. Hiring a wedding stylist can help you with the designing and planning of your special day! From rustic barn-types to coastal themes to niche styling, a stylist can help you clear out the clutter and achieve your wedding theme dreams.
To find the perfect stylist for you, consider:
Reviews and experience. After doing a quick Google search, make sure to peruse their social media and website for some reviews from previous clients and examples of their work.
Ask around for referrals. Ask some of your married family and friends about their wedding stylist.
Your wedding venue may offer styling in their packages, if not, they should be able to give you referrals to their preferred suppliers.
Stationery
Stationery is vital to any wedding. Invites, RSVP cards, place-cards, menus, the list goes on! Listed below are some of the more important stationery elements for your wedding:
Engagement Party Invites
Save the Date cards
Bridal Shower Invite and Thank You Cards
Bachelor/Hens Party Invite
Ceremony Program
Placecards
Menu cards
Bonbonniere tags/stickers
Thank You Cards - Guests and Suppliers
And, of course, the actual wedding invite! Wedding invitation suites are a beautiful way to present the details of your special day. Suites usually include:
Invitation
Response card and envelope (including dietary restrictions)
Mailing envelope
Postage
Wedding itinerary
Directions to ceremony and reception
Accommodation card
Belly bands to hold it all together
Alternatively, you may consider a wedding website to direct your guests to. Many modern bridal couples are opting for this method as it is often cheaper and doesn’t involve the hassle of posting individual invitations.
I’ve created a wedding stationery checklist for you to download and keep track of what stationery you want for your wedding.
Wedding Flowers
Flowers can really make a wedding, and who doesn’t love the look of florals on the altar and in table centrepieces. You may be passionate about a certain type of flower, but if that bloom isn’t in season at the time of your wedding, you may have to compromise, or be prepared to fork out alot of money to get it flown in from around the country. Fortunately, you have many options. You can work with a floral stylist to find similar looking flowers that are in season and you might even find a new favourite in the process. If you’re looking for how to choose the right flowers for your wedding, check out my seasonal wedding flower guide below.
For the wedding party you may consider:

Ceremony Hire
Not everyone has enough chairs and signage lying around to deck out their ceremony. Consider hiring from a local Sunshine Coast business for all your ceremony needs. Wedding Stylists hire out arbours, chairs, the appropriate signage, umbrellas, and water stations for ceremony usage, they can also set up and pull down, so you don’t have to rely on family & friends.
Reception Hire
The same goes for your reception! If you’re booked in at a wedding venue then they may have everything you need, but for those hosting in their backyard or a garden venue, you may need to look into hiring a marquee, tables, chairs, signage, and all the necessary lighting. Festoon lights and fairy lights are very popular and look just magical at night time.
DIY Weddings
Not too keen on hiring out everything but the kitchen sink? No worries! Many bridal couples are turning to DIY tricks to deck out their wedding day. Why not build your own wedding arbour with your fiancee? This six-minute video by The Sorry Girls, details how to DIY your ceremony arbour. And what better keepsake to have than the object that beautifully framed your vows and first kiss?
Don’t be put off by the idea of DIY-ing your wedding. It isn’t all about saving money, do-it-yourself activities are great for repurposing old furniture and knick-knacks you have lying around, it’s perfect to bond with your partner, and it puts a unique spin on your special day.
How exciting! By now you should have a good idea of what style your wedding is starting to look like. With the help of my free downloads - Wedding Stationery Checklist and Wedding Flower Checklist, it should help keep you on track with your wedding planning.
